Easter Sunday,
31st March 2024,

Opening Activity:
Things to chat about before the service starts!
Did you remember that the clocks changed during the night? How many clocks did you have to change manually?
What time did you wake up today? Did you have to use an alarm?
What sort of things, or situations, are you afraid of, or alarmed by?

He Is Risen!

Welcome, Bible Reading (Mark 16: 1-8) & Prayer

Song: ‘See, What A Morning’
See, what a morning, gloriously bright,

with the dawning of hope in Jerusalem;
folded the grave-clothes, tomb filled with light,
as the angels announce Christ is risen!

See God’s salvation plan, wrought in love,
borne in pain, paid in sacrifice,

fulfilled in Christ, the man,
for He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!

See Mary weeping, ‘Where is He laid?’

As in sorrow she turns from the empty tomb;
hears a voice speaking, calling her name;

it’s the Master, the Lord raised to life again!

The voice that spans the years,

speaking life, stirring hope, bringing peace to us,
will sound till He appears,

for He lives, Christ is risen from the dead!

One with the Father, Ancient of Days,

through the Spirit who clothes faith with certainty,
honour and blessing, glory and praise

to the King crowned with power and authority!

And we are raised with Him,

death is dead, love has won, Christ has conquered;
and we shall reign with Him,

for He lives, Christ is risen from the dead!

Thought Part 1:
‘Do Not Be Afraid!’

Song: ‘The Greatest Day In History’
The greatest day in history,

death is beaten, you have rescued me.
Sing it out, Jesus is alive.

The empty cross and the empty grave,
life eternal, you have won the day.
Shout it out: Jesus is alive, he’s alive.

And oh, happy day, happy day,
you washed my sin away.

Oh, happy day, happy day,
Iʼll never be the same.
For ever I am changed.

When I stand in that place,

free at last, meeting face to face,

I am yours, Jesus, you are mine.
Endless joy, perfect peace,

earthly pain finally will cease.
Celebrate, Jesus is alive, he’s alive.

And oh, happy day, happy day,
you washed my sin away.

Oh, happy day, happy day,
Iʼll never be the same.
For ever I am changed.

Oh, what a glorious day,
what a glorious way

that you have saved me.
And oh, what a glorious day,
what a glorious name,
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

And oh, happy day, happy day,
you washed my sin away.

Oh, happy day, happy day,
Iʼll never be the same.
For ever I am changed.

Thought pt 2 -
‘Easter, In An Eggshell’

Prayer Of The People
Lord, in Your mercy
Hear our prayer.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
for yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory for ever. Amen.

Song: ‘There Is A Green Hill’
There is a green hill far away,
Outside a city wall,
Where the dear Lord was crucified,
Who died to save us all.

We may not know, we cannot tell,
What pains He had to bear;
But we believe it was for us
He hung and suffered there.

He died that we might be forgiven,
He died to make us good,
That we might go at last to heaven,
Saved by His precious blood.

There was no other good enough
To pay the price of sin;
He only could unlock the gate
Of heaven, and let us in.

O dearly, dearly has He loved,
And we must love Him too,
And trust in His redeeming blood,
And try His works to do.

(Song: ‘Up From The Grave)
Up from the grave he arose,

with a mighty triumph oʼer his foes;

he arose a victor from the dark domain,

and he lives for ever with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Song: ‘In Christ Alone’

In Christ alone my hope is found,

He is my light, my strength, my song;

this cornerstone, this solid ground,

firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all,

here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! - who took on flesh,
fullness of God in helpless babe!

This gift of love and righteousness,
scorned by the ones He came to save:
till on the cross as Jesus died,
the wrath of God was satisfied
for every sin on Him was laid:
here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,

Light of the world by darkness slain:
then bursting forth in glorious day

up from the grave He rose again!

And as He stands in victory

sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,

for I am His and He is mine –

bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,

this is the pow’r of Christ in me;
from life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.

No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man,
can ever pluck me from His hand;
till He returns or calls me home,
here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

My sisters and brothers,
today we have celebrated
the glorious mystery of Christ's death and resurrection.
Let us go forth, rejoicing in the knowledge
that Jesus is alive.

Today, we look to the future -
to the new dawn of Easter time
Let us go to live as people bathed in the light of resurrection.

Today, we remember the day when creation was made new
when God showed humanity its destiny.
Let us go as people living in the knowledge
that through the triumph of Jesus over death
the gates of heaven are re-opened.
